CAUTION: The installation process for this program has three stages (including the removal of other antivirus programs, if any). These stages must be completed in the order given below. To avoid damage to your computer system, it is also crucial that you finish all the steps in one stage before moving to the next.

CAUTION: Intego VirusBarrier X5 is compatible only with Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5.  OIT recommends upgrading to the latest Mac OS X.

I. Updating your operating system

Before you begin working with your antivirus software, make sure that you have recently used Software Update, located in your Apple menu. To find out more about using Software Update, visit the Apple Knowledgebase article on this topic.

II. Uninstalling existing antivirus programs

Before you can install Intego VirusBarrier, you must uninstall any antivirus products that are present on your computer:

• If you have any NCSU-provided Symantec or Norton antivirus programs installed, use our instructions for removing Symantec antivirus products from Mac OS X.
  
• If you have other antivirus programs installed, use our general instructions for uninstalling other antivirus programs. You may need to see your antivirus program's documentation for additional details.

III. Installing Intego VirusBarrier for Mac OS X

1. Be sure that you are an administrator for the computer on which you will be installing this program. [How can I tell if I'm an administrator?]
2. Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
3. Accept the NCSU download EULA and download Intego VirusBarrier X5:

   Note: You will need to log in with your Unity ID and password.
4. When your download is finished, close any programs currently running on your computer.
5. Double-click on the VirusBarrierX5.dmg icon.
   
6. The VirusBarrier X5 drive image will mount on your computer, and the VirusBarrier installer folder will appear.  Double-click on VirusBarrier X5 Installer.
   
7. The VirusBarrier X5 Installer window will appear.  Press the Install VirusBarrier X5 button to continue.
   
8. The Install VirusBarrier X5 install wizard will appear.  Click the Continue button.
9. Read the Intego license agreement and click Continue.  In the drop-down dialog box, select Agree.
10. You can choose to change the install location for VirusBarrier, then press Continue.
11. Press Install to begin the install process.
12. You will be asked to authenticate, so the installation can continue.
13. VirusBarrier will install on your computer.  This process may take several moments to complete.
    
14. When the install process is complete, you will be prompted to reboot your computer.  Press the Reboot button.
