Using Intego VirusBarrier to Perform an On-Demand Virus Scan in Mac OS X
To use Intego VirusBarrier to perform an antivirus scan on your Mac OS X computer, follow these steps:
- Open your Applications folder and double-click on the VirusBarrier X5 icon.

- The VirusBarrier X5 window will appear. To begin a scan of your entire computer, click on the large Scan button at the bottom-center of the window. If you wish to scan only certain drives or folders on your computer, click on the smaller gray Select button just above the Scan button.

- Scanning will begin, and you will see progress information displayed in the large, green On-Demand Scanner circle, above the Scan button. Depending on the number of files being scanned, the antivirus scan can take some time to complete. It is best not to interrupt this process, so leave your computer alone while it scans.

- If VirusBarrier detects a virus during the scan, it will display an alert. The alert will tell you the name of the file infected, the virus, and give you a choice about dealing with the virus. For most viruses, you will want to either use the Put in Quarantine or Repair options.
- Repair: will attempt to remove the virus from the file
- Put in Quarantine: will place the file in a secure location, so you can deal with it later

- When the virus scan is complete, you can review any files that you placed into quarantine. To do so, open the View menu, and select Quarantine. The quarantine list will appear.

- In your quarantine list, you will see the file(s) that are currently quarantined on your system. You can choose to perform the following actions on the file(s):
- Delete from Disk: permanently delete the file(s) from your computer.
- Consider Safe: overrules VirusBarrier's determinations, returns the file(s) to your system for use
- Scan: re-scan the file(s), to determine if they are still infected
- Repair: attempt to clean the virus from the file(s)
- When you are finished, close VirusBarrier by closing the window.
If you have problems while performing these steps, contact the NC State Help Desk for assistance.
