How to Deal With a Virus Caught by VirusBarrier
What do you do if Intego VirusBarrier detects a virus on your computer? First, do not panic! If VirusBarrier detected the virus, it means that the viral infection has likely been stopped before any damage could take place.
VirusBarrier will display an alert when it detects a virus, similar to this:

This alert lets you know that VirusBarrier took action to prevent the infection from spreading. You have a choice about how to deal with the virus-infected file:
- Reveal in Finder: shows you the location of the infected file on your computer
- Ignore: does nothing to the infected file (strongly NOT recommended)
- Put in Quarantine: stores the infected file in a secure location, rendering it harmless, so you can inspect it later.
- Repair: causes VirusBarrier to attempt to strip the virus from the infected file.
As indicated above, we strongly recommend against using the Ignore option, as it will leave the virus on your system. You should either attempt to Repair the infected file, or Put in Quarantine where you can come back and check on it at a later point. If you do not make a choice after a period of time, VirusBarrier will automatically place the file in quarantine.
To view the list of quarantined files:
- Open your Applications folder and double-click on the VirusBarrier X5 icon.

- When the VirusBarrier X5 window appears, open the View menu, and select Quarantine. The quarantine list will appear.

- In your quarantine list, you will see the file(s) that are currently quarantined on your system. You can choose to perform the following actions on the file(s):
- Delete from Disk: permanently delete the file(s) from your computer.
- Consider Safe: overrules VirusBarrier's determinations, returns the file(s) to your system for use
- Scan: re-scan the file(s), to determine if they are still infected
- Repair: attempt to clean the virus from the file(s)
- When you are finished, close VirusBarrier by closing the window.
If you have problems while performing these steps, contact the NC State Help Desk for assistance.
