Highlights of Dr. Hoit's recent on-campus activities
October 21, Appointed new Student Email Task Force
Dr. Hoit announced the formation of a new NC State Student Email Task Force "to review and evaluate student email services offered by the Office of Information Technology and determine the best path forward to support current and future student needs." The task force was also asked to investigate related opportunities to improve student services while reducing current costs. Led by Stan North Martin, director of OIT Outreach, Communications and Consulting, the group will include representatives from Student Government and other campus stakeholders. October 9, OIT Expo 2008 - Keynote address: ”IT Doesn’t Matter: Creative IT Does.”
As information and commuinication technologies become increasingly potent drivers of global economic and social change, NC State is positioned to be a leading-edge 21st century university, Dr. Hoit said in his data-rich keynote address. For this to happen, the university needs the central IT organization to be a "[p]artner in the full university enterprise (not just [a] provider of commodity infrastructure)." During the talk, Hoit presented his working version of OIT vission and mission statements, and an overview of his IT strategic planning process.
