Email & Calendaring
Student email
- Google Apps @ NC State is the official email system for all NC State students. This is the email account to which all official university communications is sent. Your email address is in this format:
yourUnityID@ncsu.edu - Calendar, Docs, and Sites are additional apps that are included in Google Apps @ NC State.
- Antispam and antivirus scanning are included in Gmail.
- Help
- If you need help, try Google Help first.
- The NC State Help Desk is available for assistance if Google Help is not sufficient.
- General Google, Accessing Google and Troubleshooting Google FAQs are available from NC State.
Faculty and staff email & calendaring
- All faculty and staff use Google Apps @ NC State, which includes both email and calendaring services as well as a number of other collaboration applications, such as Google Docs.
- New employees joining the unversity receive only a Google Apps @ NC State account.
- Cyrus/Unity/Webmail continues to provide shared mailbox services for faculty and staff.
- Antispam and antivirus scanning for faculty and staff is provided by Postini, a product powered by Google.
- Central email archiving and retention services for faculty staff is provided by Postini, a product powered by Google.
General email information
- Official university email is always sent to students' and employees' UnityID@ncsu.edu email accounts.
- Email address updating for students, faculty, and staff is done using the MyPack Portal.
- Email forwarding is discouraged but can be done within the official email system, Google.
- Email aliases provide an easy-to-remember alternative email address, but are available only to faculty, staff, and graduate students.
- Google Generic Accounts facilitate group use of an email address.
- Email Groups - There are two options for establishing and managing subscription based email groups. They are Google Groups and MajorDomo List Services. Email groups provides faculty, staff, and graduate students with a way to subscribe to receive email related to a particular topic or from a particular group and to send email to a list of interested parties.
