Getting Started with Postini Message Security
Soon after OIT creates your Postini Message Security account, you will receive an email notification that it is ready to use. This page can help you get started with this antivirus/antispam service.
Logging in
- You'll need to synchronize your Unity password. If you haven't already done this, follow the Unity Password Sync Instructions (link opens in a new window). You'll need to synchronize only once.
- After you've synchronized your password, Log in to your Message Center.
- In the Log in Address box, enter your email address, which is in this format:
UnityID @ncsu.edu
Replace UnityID with your own Unity ID. If you don't know what it is, contact the NC State Help Desk. - In the Password box, enter your Unity password.
- Click the Log In button.
The Junk tab in the Postini@NC State window will open and display the mail caught by the filter within the last week. Other display options are Last 3 Days and All.
Managing your junk mail
Message Center basics
- To delete a message, mark its checkbox and click on the Delete Selected button.
A deleted message stays in your Trash for 3 days so you can recover it if needed. - To retrieve a message that is not junk, mark its checkbox and click on its Deliver button to send it to your Inbox.
- To view the contents of a message, click on its subject. If you believe it was mistakenly flagged as junk, you can:
- Click on the Why Was This Message Quarantined? link in the lower left hand corner of the page.
- When that page opens, click on the Submit for Analysis button. This allows your e-mail protection service to improve the future accuracy of your filters.
Note that you will not receive a response to your submission.
- Messages stay in your quarantine for 14 days before being automatically deleted.
- For online help, click the Help button:

in the upper right corner of the page.
