Address Book
Webmail's Address Book allows you to:
- Save names and e-mail addresses
- Insert them into messages
- Record other individual information
- Import address books from other mail programs.
Address Book Fields
- Nickname (required)
An alternate or shortened version of a person's name. You can use this in the "To," "Cc," or "Bcc" fields of a message. - E-mail address (required)
If this is incorrect, your message will go to the wrong person or be bounced back to you. It must contain:
- Recipient's ID, e.g, "johnd"
- Domain name, e.g., "unity.ncsu"
- Top level domain, e.g., "edu"
- First name (required)
- Last name (optional)
- Additional info (optional)
For phone number, postal address, and individual facts.
Edit a Listing
- Mark the checkbox beside the listing
- Click on the "Edit selected" button. You can edit only one listing at a time.
Remove a Listing
- Mark the checkbox beside the listing.
- Click on the "Delete selected" button. You can delete several listings simultaneously.
Create a List
NOTE: A Webmail list is restricted to 6 or fewer members; if you need a list of more than 6, request a Majordomo list service.
- Go to http://webmail.ncsu.edu/.
- Log in, using your Unity ID and password.
- Click on "Addresses" at the top of the screen.
- Go to the "Add to Personal address book" section at the bottom of the page.
- In the "Nickname" field, type the name of the e-mail list you are creating.
- In the "E-mail address" field, type all the addresses of the list members (maximum of 6), separating them with commas.
- In the "First name" field, retype the name of your list.
- Leave the "Last name" field blank.
- To save your list, select the "Add address" button at the bottom of the form.
Use a List
- Open your Inbox.
- Choose "Compose."
- In the "To" field, type the name of your list.
- Compose your e-mail.
- Click on the "Send" button.
Edit a List
- Choose "Addresses" at the top of the screen.
- Find the name of your list in the "Nickname" column.
- Mark the check box to the left of the name.
- Choose the "Edit selected" button.
- Change the field(s) as needed.
- Click on "Update address" to finish the edit.
Import an Address Book
NOTE: The address book you want to import must be in CSV format.
- In your other e-mail program, export your address book.
- Save it as a CSV file (should be a standard option).
- In Webmail, click on the "Import CSV File" button.
- Browse to the location of the saved CSV file.
Export your Address Book
Click on "Export CSV File".
