Configuring your BlackBerry to connect to Gmail

After making sure you've completed the required first step below, you can watch a video of the rest of this procedure if you prefer. Choose the video for the type of BlackBerry you have:

Note: IMAP access is not officially supported for BlackBerry devices at this time.

Configuring your BlackBerry device

  1. Make sure you have already synced your password using the procedure described under Syncing your Unity passwordThis link will open in a new window. If you don't do this first, your connection still won't work even after completing the following steps.
  2. On your BlackBerry phone, navigate to your home screen.
  3. Select the icon that lets you set up e-mail, which can be called BlackBerry Set-up, E-mail settings, or Personal E-mail Set-up.
  4. When prompted for a username and password, enter unityID@ncsu.edu for the username, and either:
    • Leve the password blank, or
    • Enter an invalid password, which will enable you to manually set the server settings.
  5. Follow the setup instructions provided on your device, selecting IMAP account if prompted to choose an e-mail connection type, and using these server settings:
    • The incoming server settings may be pre-populated. Make sure to change the following fields:
      • For Username, enter your full NC State e-mail address: UnityID@ncsu.edu [Note: This must be the fully-qualified address, so be sure to include the @ncsu.edu in it.]
      • For Password, enter your Unity password.
      • For IMAP server, enter imap.gmail.com
      • For Port enter 993
