Green IT

Does your computer have a smokestack? Maybe not, but according to NC State's Green House Gas (GHG) inventory, 52% of NC State’s GHG emissions come from the use of electricity. An estimated 15% of that use may be related to information and communication technologies (ICT); more than 40% of ICT energy use is said to come from personal computing.

"Green IT" involves:

  • Computing in an environmentally sustainable way
  • Reducing the GHG emissions and e-waste produced by ICT
  • Using ICT to help reduce overall GHG emissions and other environmental impacts.

By employing green IT practices, OIT is working to help NC State reduce its "carbon pawprint" and advance sustainablity. You can too!
