IT Cost Reduction

Campus leadership is looking for ways to save at least $1 million in campus IT spending over the next two fiscal years. Several preliminary ideas have been suggested about how this might be accomplished. To provide your feedback on the four possibilities now being discussed or to make your own suggestions online, please visit

In early spring, 2009, VCIT Marc Hoit formed task groups to investigate the feasibility of four IT budget reduction strategies. These groups submitted reports in May 2009:

OIT publishes first Strategic Operations Plan

NC State's CIO, Dr. Marc Hoit, is currently working on a three-phase planning process to improve the use of information technology as a driver for change:

1) Develop a Strategic Operations Plan for the central IT organization in order to make it more efficient, effective and responsive to its customers, and focused on providing service to the university. The plan was completed in December 2008. For more details, and to comment on this process, visit the OIT Strategic Operations Plan forum

2) Improve the IT governance on campus to be sure there is input and collaboration on decisions and directions for IT.

3) Develop an IT Strategic Plan for campus that involves all the units, groups and constituents and that infuses IT into the fabric of university. These changes will take place over the next few years and beyond. Watch this site for updates, drafts and chances to participate.
