NC State's VCL gaining national attention
More than 250 university faculty and staff from across the country participated in a July 29 EDUCAUSE Live! event featuring NC State's Virtual Computing Lab. The webinar, entitled "Cloud Computing for the Academic Institution," was led by OIT's Dr. Henry Schaffer and Dr. Sarah Stein.
The VCL and other NC State Cloud Computing efforts have also been featured in recent publications, such as:
- NDNet News: "The disruptive nature of cloud computing," by Ric Telford
- The IEEE Computer magazine: "NCSU’s Virtual Computing Lab: A Cloud Computing Solution," by Henry E. Schaffer, Samuel F. Averitt, Marc I. Hoit, Aaron Peeler, Eric D. Sills, and Mladen A. Vouk
- The IBM Journal of Research and Development:"Using VCL technology to implement distributed reconfigurable data centers and computational services for educational institutions" by the VCL team
Earlier this summer, NC State was awarded a 2009 Computerworld Laureate for the VCL and Cloud Computing efforts.
The VCL provides remote access to a wide range of advanced computing resources for students, faculty, and researchers. To find out more, visit vcl.ncsu.edu.
