WolfWise town hall meetings are scheduled for February
Beginning this spring, all current GroupWise and Oracle users’ accounts will be migrated to the new WolfWise system, NC State's implementation of Novell GroupWise for its single centrally supported calendaring and email solution for campus. The migration of GroupWise users’ accounts is scheduled to begin in February and continuing for several months. Oracle users’ migration is scheduled to begin late March.
The WolfWise implementation team has scheduled two general town hall meetings to discuss the move with current GroupWise users. The meetings will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3rd in 107 Harrelson Hall and from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10th in 216 Poe Hall.
For GroupWise Users:
Migration changes that will impact you will include the following:
§ GroupWise users’ accounts will be moved to the new WolfWise system according to email post offices, and users will be notified by email two weeks in advance of the pending move, which will occur over a weekend. GroupWise accounts will be unavailable the weekend of the email post office move starting at 10 p.m. Friday. Depending on the size of the post office, this outage may extend through Sunday morning. No messages will be lost during the migration as incoming messages are saved and then delivered once the post office is migrated to the new WolfWise environment.
§ Current GroupWise users' passwords will be synched to their Unity (Portal) passwords. Please note that your current Portal password settings will not change (i.e. if you are currently required to change your password every 90 days, you will still be required to change your password every 90 days).
§ Additionally, the new WolfWise address book will display a user’s preferred name as it is listed in the NC State online campus directory. This includes the name that others see in the From: field when they receive email/appointments from you as well as your entry in the address book. To confirm that your information is correct, please visit http://www.ncsu.edu/directory/ and click on the Update My Directory Listing (Faculty/Staff) link toward the bottom of the page. Under Customer Information, ensure that the following fields have the information that you would like displayed in WolfWise: Preferred Name (First) Preferred Name (Last), Working Title, Preferred Dept., Work Phone(s) (Primary), and Work Fax. Changing this information now will ensure that you have the correct information when your post office is migrated. Changes can be made at anytime (even after the migration) and will update to WolfWise nightly.
§ Current GroupWise users’ accounts will remain on the existing time-based retention policy. Email messages will continue to auto archive or delete based on the 180-day retention cycle until a university-wide email retention policy has been established. Beginning with the spring billing cycle, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will no longer charge for archive space.
§ The Blackberry cost model will be re-examined sometime this summer.
For Oracle Users:
§ Current Oracle users who are having their calendar migrated will also have their email migrated from Unity mail to WolfWise.
§ All current messages from users' live mailboxes (with existing folder structures) will be migrated into the WolfWise system and will remain there until a university-wide email retention policy is implemented. Please refrain from moving any “local mail store” to the WolfWise System until the campus archiving solution is in place.
§ More information concerning the Oracle migration will be forthcoming soon.
New Email Retention (Archiving) Policy:
§ An email retention task force has been established to create a university-wide email retention policy. A recommendation is expected in the May/June time frame.
