Oracle Letter

On Friday, May 8, 2009 campus was notified that the migration date for Oracle users has been postponed until June 5, 2009. Below is the letter that went out to users on 5/8/09.

Dear Oracle Calendar user:

As many of you have heard, there are several issues that have placed the
migration date of May 15, 2009 in serious jeopardy. In order to ensure a
quality deliverable, the WolfWise team will delay the migration until these
issues have been resolved satisfactorily. Over the past week, the team has
assessed resolution options including time for adequate testing and it
appears the most logical date for migration is Friday, June 5th beginning
that evening.

We have posted specific information related to the outstanding issues on
the WolfWise website - www.ncsu.edu/wolfwise - and will provide weekly
updates to the site regarding our progress towards resolution.

As a result of this migration date, the Oracle calendar server will not be
decommissioned until three weeks after the migration (June 26th). At that
time you will no longer be able to access your calendar data via the Oracle
system.

If you choose to have OIT migrate your calendar data, we will also migrate
your Unity (Cyrus) email. WolfWise is a combined calendar and email
product, so we believe the best course of action is to migrate both email
and calendar data to it.

Your WolfWise email and calendar will be available over the weekend in a
limited capacity. While you may be able to log in and review email during
the migration, full functionality should not be expected until 8:00 a.m. on
Monday, June 8th, 2009.

As a reminder from our earlier correspondence, PLEASE NOTE the following
four items:

(1) You have several options (including a default one) regarding the
migration to WolfWise, so it is very important that you fill out and submit
the migration preferences form:

http://www.ncsu.edu/wolfwise/migrate/oracle.php

(2) OIT will send you an email reminder about this form approximately one
to two weeks prior to June 5.

(3) If you do not submit this form:

(+) OIT will not set up a WolfWise account for you. (+) OIT will not
migrate your Oracle calendar data. (+) You will not have access to your
Oracle Calendar data after June 26. (+) You will have full responsibility
for preserving your Oracle calendar data. (+) OIT will not migrate your
Unity (Cyrus) email at this time.

(4) Some colleges and/or departments have made a unified decision for their
users regarding this migration and thus you do *not* need to fill out this
form. You should have received communication from your department head or
IT support person regarding this decision; however you should still read
the information found on the migration web pages so that you understand
what will happen to your calendar and email during the migration.

Some colleges / units that pre-selected for their users include:

CNR

CALS (departmental specific) and CALS Extension

DELTA

Libraries

Textiles

To help ease your transition to WW, OIT has planned several demonstrations,
training sessions and Q&A sessions, to be held just prior to and
immediately after the migration. For schedules, please check this page:

http://www.ncsu.edu/wolfwise/training

In the meantime, please read over the migration preferences form carefully.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the migration, please do
not hesitate to contact the Help Desk (help@ncsu.edu, 515-4357).

Sincerely,

OIT WolfWise Team

First letter mailed to Oracle users on Monday, April 27, 2009

Dear Oracle Calendar User:

On Friday evening, May 15, 2009, OIT will be migrating the Oracle calendar service to WolfWise (WW), which is NC State's implementation of Novell's GroupWise email and calendaring product.  Following this migration, WW will be the only centrally supported calendar package on campus.   On May 25, the Oracle calendar server will be turned off, and you will no longer be able to access your calendar data there.
If you choose to have OIT migrate your calendar data, we will also migrate your Unity (Cyrus) email.  WW is a combined calendar and email product, so we believe the best course of action is to migrate both email and calendar data to it.

Your WolfWise email and calendar will be available over the weekend in a limited capacity. While you may be able to log in and review email during the migration, full functionality should not be expected until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009.
