2) Casper 9 transition update – 10 min

Well it was very, very slow but it has finished !(Almost) OIT did move to a vendor hosted version of Casper Suite 9.2 as part of the upgrade to Casper Suite version 9.22 on Dec 23, 2013.  Please re-enroll all mobile devices at this time!

Each group currently using their own prefix (ie OIT, OIT-CS, DES, LIB, etc) was moved into their own Casper Site for secure federated management controlled by the directory groups provided.   NOTE: Package naming will need to change. In Casper 9.x the unit prefixes will change to add “NCSU-“   so packages made by OIT would now be named NCSU-OIT-packagename.  This is to avoid issues with other UNC system schools in the hosted environment.  If your unit would like to host a JAMF Distribution Server (JDS) or NetBoot Server please email Everette_Allen@ncsu.edu so we can work out the details. NOTE when we transition to 9.x all mobile devices must be re-enrolled.  And Capser 9.2+ has support for management of Apple TVs but we do not yet know what, if any, the license costs are. Discussion

3) Casper Permissions issue and Enabling JDS. – 20

OIT is now tracking an issue with the vendor where permission restrictions can disable saving with CasperAdmin.app and Recon.app.  The only current way around the issue is to move to a master software distribution server that is a JDS.  OIT is in the process of syncing the current AFP fileserver to all of the JDS servers and will make a JDS server the master software distribution server when that is complete (target is Jan 16, 2014).  This may orphan some policies and these will either need to be recreated or edited to force the use of the old AFP fileserver style installations.  New software and policies will automatically use the JDS servers.  Demo of how force installs to use file share installs.

PLEASE REMOVE ALL UNUSED AND UNNEEDED PACKAGES.

Discussion.

4) Casper Machine Move Issue  – 20 min.

We are seeing extremely slow move from the old server at swm.oit.ncsu.edu to the new nc.jamfcloud.com server…. only about 20 per day.  We are working with the vendor on this but OIT would like to work with site admins to do forced moves of machines using either a) the correct, site-specific QuickAdd package via ARD, ssh, or console  or b) by forcing the correct policy to install using the jamf binary.  For force install information see:

http://oit.ncsu.edu/macintosh/casper-8-9-forced-move-instructions

OIT would like to have all OS X and iOS devices moved by Jan 30, 2014 if possible.

Discussion.

5) Casper 9 Sites Demo  – 20 min.

Everette will cover how to create packages, scripts, and policies in the new Casper web interface if you are in your site’s packager group.

Discussion.

6) Q&A  – 5 min.  You ask we try to answer
