NC State offers Globus file transfer services

NC State researchers can now use Globus to transfer, share and manage their research data within a single interface.

A research data management system, Globus can move huge datasets, up to petabytes, and provide single sign-on authentication so participants at research institutions, universities, national labs, and governmental facilities can easily share data worldwide.

NC State researchers can use their Unity ID and password to authenticate to Globus via the campus Shibboleth authentication service. Globus also supports authentication via the Incommon Federation whose membership includes NC State and hundreds of other research universities.

OIT has also developed a Globus service team to advise and assist campus users. The service team consists of:

  • System administrators who manage the local Globus Connect servers that support the various local endpoints.
  • Security and compliance staff who can advise on the appropriateness of the data being shared.
  • Individuals who are familiar with research methods and can advise on the best approach to share data with other researchers.

OIT supports connectivity between the following endpoints and any remote Globus endpoint: Research Storage, the High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster, Google Drive storage, OIT NAS storage, and local host storage.
