‘Tis the season to conserve IT

Help the Wolfpack community save energy by powering down non-essential electronics and appliances before you leave for Winter Break!

NC State’s Holiday Energy Savings Initiative (HESI) is well underway and strives to decrease energy consumption on campus by lowering building temperatures and turning off lights and unused equipment. NC State Energy Management will employ these measures until Monday, Jan. 18.

Before you leave for Winter Break, remember to:

  • Turn off non-essential electronics, including scanners, printers and other computer peripherals that won’t be used while you’re away.
  • Shut down your computer as opposed to a sleep state, if compatible with your business processes. If you need to keep your computer on, simply turn off your monitor.
  • Turn off all lights in your office and close any exterior windows and doors.
  • Spread the word about the HESI and encourage others to participate.

Since HESI’s conception in 2005, NC State has saved over $4.5 million in energy costs. For more energy savings tips, visit the Holiday Energy Saving Initiative website.
