Help NC State conserve energy during Winter Break

Are you ready for the Winter Break, Wolfpack? Before you leave, help NC State conserve energy by powering down non-essential electronics and appliances.

Since 2005, NC State Energy Management has deployed the Holiday Energy Savings Initiative (HESI), which safely lowers building temperatures and utility costs in unoccupied campus buildings during the winter holiday.

Do Your Part

You can also help to conserve campus energy resources. Before you leave for the Winter Break, remember to:

  • Turn off non-essential electronics, including scanners, printers and other computer peripherals that won’t be used while you’re away.
  • Shut down your computer instead of putting it in a sleep state, if compatible with your business processes. If you need to keep your computer on, simply turn off your monitor.
  • Turn off all lights in your office and close any exterior windows and doors.
  • Spread the word about the HESI and encourage others to participate.

Since the program’s inception, NC State has saved more than $4.8 million in utility costs. To learn more about the energy savings program, visit the HESI website.
