Conserve energy during Winter Break!

Before you leave for Winter Break, you can take small actions that will make a significant environmental impact for the Wolfpack community.

Since 2005, NC State Energy Management’s Holiday Energy Savings Initiative (HESI) has safely lowered temperatures and utility costs in unoccupied campus buildings during the break. NC State has saved more than $5 million in utility costs since the program’s inception.

You can also help conserve energy by remembering to:

  • Turn off any non-essential electronics, including scanners and printers, that won’t be used while you’re away.
  • Turn off all lights in your office and close exterior windows and doors.
  • Shut down your computer rather than putting it in sleep or hibernate mode, if compatible with your business processes. If you need to keep a computer on, turn off your monitor.
  • Spread the word about the HESI and encourage others to participate to maximize energy conservation and savings.
