Since Google announced it would end free unlimited storage for Google Workspace, NC State has successfully reduced its data storage from 5 petabytes (PB) to 2.82 PB. While this is substantial progress, additional reduction efforts are underway to meet the 2.4 PB goal.
What’s Next?
In the coming months, the Google Service Team will remove the temporary 1 TB and 500 GB storage exceptions that were previously granted to employees, including for generic accounts. These removals affect individual user My Drives, NOT Shared Drive exceptions. Affected users received emails last week and will receive periodic reminders until removal.
Removals will occur on the following dates:
- January 2025: 1 TB exceptions will be removed from 200 users.
- April 2025: 500 GB exceptions will be removed from 650 users.
