Research Storage Improvements Coming Nov. 15

Decorative

A new Office of Information Technology (OIT) research computing website and improvements to the Research Storage portal will launch on Friday, Nov. 15.

The new website will serve as a landing place for OIT research computing services, including Research Storage, a data storage solution that offers two types of storage allocations — Individual Faculty Storage, available to all NC State faculty, and Active Project Storage, available for all active projects in the Research Enterprise Data system.

Improvements to the Research Storage portal, where users can manage their storage space, include making the interface more user-friendly and adding clear documentation.

These changes, led by OIT and the NC State University Libraries, follow a Research Storage usability study conducted last fall to identify possible areas of improvement. The study was focused on discovery, setup and usability of the service.

In spring 2023, the university’s Strategic Storage Task Force released seven recommendations as a result of Google announcing it would end free unlimited storage for Google Workspace. Recommendation 1 was to improve the usability of Research Storage to support increased use.

The new OIT research computing website will be available at researchcomputing.oit.ncsu.edu.
