Use Wi-Fi Calling for Better On-Campus Calls

David Brain, a former Project Management Lite student, looks at his cellphone.

No cell service? No problem.

By enabling Wi-Fi calling on your mobile device, you can make and take calls from anywhere on campus while connected to Wi-Fi.

Here are a few benefits of Wi-Fi calling:

Reliability

Spotty cell signal often causes dropped or missed phone calls. As long as you’re connected to a wireless network, like NC State’s eduroam or ncsu networks, Wi-Fi calling ensures you stay connected to family, friends and colleagues. For most major carriers, calls will automatically switch to your cellular network if Wi-Fi drops.

Improved Call Quality

We’ve all experienced phone calls plagued by garbled audio that cuts in and out. Wi-Fi calling typically offers clearer audio compared to traditional calls.

Built-In Feature

Wi-Fi calling is built in to most current smartphones and requires no apps or additional purchases. The feature simply needs to be turned on, and you can adjust the settings to your preference.

The steps to enable Wi-Fi calling differ by device. Check with your device’s manufacturer or wireless carrier to find documentation specific to you.
