Social media is a powerful communications tool at NC State. We use these platforms to share announcements, events, deadlines and resources.
Making sure your social content is accessible means that everyone in our community — including those with disabilities — can access important information, participate in conversations and engage with campus life.
Pathway to ADA Compliance
Learn It, Audit It, Improve It is a campuswide initiative to empower everyone at NC State to help create an accessible digital landscape and meet new federal accessibility standards by April 24, 2026.

Here are six tips to ensure your social media posts are accessible:
- Alt Text: Images should include clear alt text so screen readers can describe visual content for users with visual impairments.
- Captions and Narrations: Videos should provide accurate captions and be narrated so the same information is conveyed for users who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Color: Text should maintain high color contrast and avoid relying on color alone to convey meaning.
- Simple Text: Use plain language and avoid excessive emojis or decorative fonts that screen readers struggle with.
- Descriptive Links: Write descriptive link text instead of vague phrases like “Click here.”
- Hashtags: When creating hashtags, capitalize the first letter of each word (e.g., #CampusOpenHouse) to help screen readers interpret them correctly.
Accessible posts not only benefit people with disabilities but also improve clarity and usability for all audiences, helping you communicate more effectively and reach a broader audience.
