NC State is transitioning to Microsoft Entra ID as its new single sign-on (SSO) solution. This is a gradual change that you may have noticed when logging in to some NC State systems.
The university has used Shibboleth as its primary SSO solution for 18 years, giving campus a streamlined way to sign in to multiple university resources. Switching to Entra ID helps the university consolidate SSO to one industry-standard platform that streamlines identity management with modern security standards and robust integration possibilities.
Entra ID is already in place for many applications. If you’ve ever used a computer at the University Libraries, logged in to the Campus Directory or used Microsoft 365, you have seen this new login experience.
Next Steps
- Many applications will gradually transition to the new login experience through the summer.
- Larger campuswide systems — like Google, Moodle, MyPack Portal and Zoom — are expected to transition in the fall.
- During the transition, you may notice minor changes in the Entra interface, such as to the background or logo. Always double check the URL before logging in to ensure the site is legitimate.
