VPN Manual Download and Installation

This page is intended for those who wish to install the NC State VPN client software manually because the automated process failed. For automated installation, see Virtual Private Networking (VPN) Service.

If the automated installer does not work or gives an error

  1. In the table below, click on the Download File for your operating system and follow the Installation Instructions.
  2. When installation is complete:
    In the Connect to: field of the AnyConnect client, enter:
    vpn.ncsu.edu

  1. Double click on the downloaded file to install.
  2. When installation is complete, go to Using the VPN client.

Version 3.1.14018 NOTE: Upgrading to Windows 8.1 requires you to uninstall AnyConnect and then reinstall it after your Windows upgrade is complete.

  1. To install, double click on the downloaded file.
  2. When installation is complete, go to Using the VPN client.
Mac OS X
(Intel 32 and 64-bit)

  1. Download the file.
  2. Untar the gzip’d tar file (as root). This creates a ciscovpn directory.
  3. Go to ciscovpn and enter:
    sudo sh ./vpn_install.sh
  4. Find the Cisco AnyConnect icon in your OS-specific menu.
Linux 32-bit Version 3.1.10010
  1. Download the file.
  2. Untar the gzip’d tar file (as root). This creates a ciscovpn directory.
  3. Go to ciscovpn and enter:
    sudo sh ./vpn_install.sh
  4. Find the Cisco AnyConnect icon in your OS-specific menu.
