VPN Manual Installation Instructions and Downloads

This page is intended for those who wish to install the NC State VPN client software manually because the automated process failed. For automated installation, see Virtual Private Networking (VPN) Service.

If the Java installer does not work or provides an error, proceed with manual downloading and installation. After installing the client, enter “vpn.ncsu.edu” in the “Connect to:” field of the AnyConnect client.

Operating System Download File Instructions
Windows 10 Version 3.1.14018 Double click on the downloaded file to install the Cisco AnyConnect software. Then proceed to Step 9 of the Windows installation instructions.
Windows 8 and 8.1
Windows Vista/XP/2000/7
Version 3.1.14018 Upgrading to Windows 8.1 requires you to uninstall AnyConnect, and reinstall it after your Windows upgrade is complete.
Double click on the downloaded file to install the Cisco AnyConnect software.Then proceed to Step 9 of the Windows installation instructions.
Mac OS X
(Intel 32 and 64-bit)
Version 3.1.14018 After downloading the appropriate file, see:

AnyConnect release 3.1 is a signed application, but it is not signed using an Apple/Mac Store certificate.  You may need to change your Gatekeeper settings as described here.

Linux 64-bit Version 3.1.10010 for 64-bit After downloading the file, untar the gzip’d tar file (as root). This will create a directory called ciscovpn. Go to this directory and enter:
sudo sh ./vpn_install.shLocate the Cisco AnyConnect client icon in your OS-specific menu.
Linux 32-bit Version 3.1.10010 After downloading the file, untar the gzip’d tar file (as root). This will create a directory called ciscovpn. Go to this directory and enter:
sudo sh ./vpn_install.shLocate the Cisco AnyConnect client icon in your OS-specific menu.
