A wireless access point provides pervasive wireless network coverage that is confined to a single room or other small areas. Extended coverage is possible but not guaranteed. A wireless access point does not guarantee a particular amount of throughput or bandwidth.
- Over the past several years, projects were completed in most major campus buildings to design and install pervasive wireless (Wi-Fi) infrastructure. For details, see Wireless Coverage Maps. This coverage infrastructure provides general wireless access throughout the buildings and in key outdoor spaces.
- In addition, by December 2018, all 110 classrooms will have a higher density wireless infrastructure designed to allow faculty to use the wireless network for instructional purposes. This instructional infrastructure is also present in some departmental (“210”) classroom. For a list of classrooms with instructional wireless, see Classroom List.
- Some areas may not be currently covered by wireless. Departments may elect to have ComTech install wireless access points in these areas as needed. Contact your Department Coordinator to place a Construction Services order for Wireless Access Points via PCR360 Customer Center.
