The NC State Help Desk has received several questions about an email sent to MailChimp account holders from “Admin Account with NC State University (mailchimp-admin@ncsu.edu)” or “Admin Account with NC State University – Agency (mailchimp-admin@ncsu.edu)”. These are valid emails to assist us in preparing to enforce a DMARC policy as the final stage of our email infrastructure project.
Once we enforce a DMARC policy, messages from 3rd Party Bulk Mailers such as Mailchimp will be flagged as suspicious and go to a recipient’s Spam folder unless your account is sending properly configured mail. In order to avoid disruptions and delivery issues related to this change, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) needs you to configure your Mailchimp account to send authenticated mail following the steps below. This will allow OIT to provide verification for your mailings.
- Log into your Mailchimp account
- Navigate to Website > Domains
- Beside ncsu.edu, click the Authenticate button.
For detailed steps and screenshots, please follow steps 1-3 in these setup instructions from Mailchimp. OIT has already completed the configuration of DKIM keys for Mailchimp, so you only need to complete the three steps listed above to authenticate your account. If you manage multiple Mailchimp accounts, you will need to complete this process for each account.
To help OIT staff troubleshoot issues with mailings originating from ncsu.edu, we have created a Mailchimp Agency account. In the coming weeks, you will receive an email from mailchimp-admin@ncsu.edu requesting Agency access to your Mailchimp account. You will need to accept this request and grant Administrator rights to the mailchimp-admin@ncsu.edu account. Follow the prompts in the email to grant these requested permissions. These administrator rights are required to view all settings and provide assistance in case there is a need to reassign the owner of an account in the future.
