ResNet is the residential computer network service provided to students living at NC State. ResNet lets you connect your personal computer directly to NC State’s computer network and, through the University network, to the Internet.

Wireless and Wired connections

Bowen Hall is the first NC State residence hall to have complete wireless coverage. For more information, see Wireless in Bowen Hall. Data jacks are still available.

During the summers of 2016 and 2017, all of the residence halls will have full wireless installed. Please see Wireless 2016 for a status update.

If you will be using Ethernet to connect your device to the internet, please review the data jack guide to determine which data jack you should use.

Network access

You will need your Unity ID and password to get network access in the residence halls.

  1. Using your Ethernet cable, connect your computer to the appropriate data jack on the outlet. See below for instructions.
  2. Launch a Web browser. You should be automatically directed to a ResNet registration page.
  3. Enter your Unity ID and password. Your computer will be registered and you should be connected to ResNet. If not, see Troubleshooting.

Manual registration

To manually register a device such as an xBox, see Device Registration on ResNet.

Antivirus and other software

See NC State Antivirus Resources.
