WolfPrint – AirPrint: How to print from iPad, iPhone and other iOS devices

WolfPrint supports printing from Apple devices using the built-in AirPrint service available on every device running iOS 5.0 or newer.  FollowMe printing is available from personal and university owned Apple devices, including iPads and iPhones.

NOTE:  AirPrint to WolfPrint FollowMe printers is not currently supported on iOS 8 or 9.

To print using AirPrint requires three (3) steps:

1) After joining the NCSU wireless network, open the item you would like to print.  Then select one of the WolfPrint FollowMe printers that automatically appear in the iOS Share menu as shown in Figure 1 (some apps may have a Print menu instead). After a printer is selected, tap the Print button to send it.

2) When  printing finishes, launch a web browser on the same device, open go.ncsu.edu/wolfprint and login to the PaperCut web client using your Unity ID.  The login must come from the same device that made the print, within 5 minutes, or the print job will be canceled with no charge.  After login, there is an opportunity to cancel the print job or set any options and print.  If the Print button is tapped, the print job will be held as usual for FollowMe printing (See WolfPrint FollowMe FAQ for more information).  Hint: The secure PaperCut web client page can be installed to the iOS home screen for easy reuse by tapping on the Share button and selecting Add to Home Screen (See www.apple.com/ios/add-to-home-screen/ for details).  Note that the Share button may be at the top or bottom of the screen depending on the application and device in use.

3) To retrieve your print job, go to a printer displaying the WolfPrint FollowMe logo and swipe your Campus ID card to release your print job.

Known Issues

Double-Sided (duplex) print jobs from iOS fail to print.  If you are using iOS 7, Double-Sided is turned on by default.  You will need to turn it off each time you print from iOS 7.
