Google Cloud Print Instructions

  • If you will be using Google Cloud Print, the table below helps you select the set of instructions you will need, based on your particular combination of file format and browser.
  • Clicking on a link in the table takes you to the section on this page containing that set of instructions, which will cover:
    • Selecting your file
    • Creating and submitting your print job to a print queue

Printing Google formats

NOTE: Use this set of Google Cloud Print instructions ONLY to print Google format files (e.g., Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings) in any browser. For other file formats and browsers, see the table of Google Cloud Print Instructions above.

  1. Getting Started
    Be sure to see First Things First for requirements about:

    1. printing from off-campus
    2. available paper sizes
    3. payment for printing.
  2. Selecting Your Google File
    1. Open any browser.
    2. Log in to your NC State Google Drive (not your personal drive) if you haven’t already done so.
    3. Open the desired Google file (e.g., Doc, Sheet, Drawing).
  3. Creating and Submitting Your Print Job
    1. In CHROME:
      1. In the file’s menu bar, click on the print icon.
      2. For Destination, select the appropriate print queue for your file:
        1. WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite (Letter size)
        2. WolfPrint-Color (Letter size)
        3. WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite-11×17
        4. WolfPrint-Color-11×17

        If the queue you want is not listed, click on See more and select it from the expanded menu.

      3. Select the Pages you want to print and number of Copies.
      4. Click on the More settings dropdown menu.
      5. Confirm your Paper size (must match the print queue you selected above):
        1. If you selected:
          WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite
          or
          WolfPrint-Color,
          then you must select US Letter (8.5 X 11), which should be selected by default.
        2. If you selected:
          WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite-11×17
          or
          WolfPrint-Color-11×17
          then you must select Ledger — Tabloid (11 X 17), which should be selected by default.
      6. If you want to print on both sides of the paper, click on More settings and mark the Two-sided checkbox.
      7. To submit your job to the print queue, click on the Print button.
      8. Within 10 minutes, follow the directions for Confirming Your Print Job.
    2. In FIREFOX or SAFARI
      1. In the file’s menu bar, click on the print icon.
      2. Select the appropriate print queue for your file:
        1. WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite (Letter size)
        2. WolfPrint-Color (Letter size)
        3. WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite-11×17
        4. WolfPrint-Color-11×17

        If the queue you want is not listed, click on See more and select it from the expanded menu.

      3. If you want to print on both sides of the paper, select Duplex.
      4. Confirm your Paper size (must match the print queue you selected above):
        1. If you selected:
          WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite
          or
          WolfPrint-Color,
          then you must select US Letter (8.5 X 11), which should be selected by default.
        2. If you selected:
          WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite-11×17
          or
          WolfPrint-Color-11×17
          then you must select Ledger — Tabloid (11 X 17), which should be selected by default.
      5. Select the Pages you want to print.
      6. To submit your job to the print queue, click on the Print button.
  4. Confirming Your Print Job
    Within 10 minutes
    after submitting your job, follow the directions below for Confirming and Printing Your Job; otherwise, it will automatically be removed from the system.

Printing Non-Google formats in Chrome

NOTE: Use this set of Google Cloud Print instructions ONLY to print various non-Google formats (e.g., .docx, .pdf, .jpg) in Chrome. For other file formats and browsers, see the table of Google Cloud Print Instructions above.

    1. Open Chrome browser.
    2. Log in to your NC State Google Drive (not your personal drive) if you haven’t already done so.

Printing Non-Google formats in a browser other than Chrome

  1. Getting Started

  2. Selecting Your Non-Google file
    1. Open a browser other than Chrome.
    2. Log in to your NC State Google Drive (not your personal drive) if you haven’t already done so.
    3. Open the non-Google file (e.g., .docx, .pdf) you want to print.
  3. Downloading Your Selected File
    1. For a .pdf file:
      From the right side of the file’s toolbar, select the download icon.
    2. For another non-Google file (e.g., .docx):
      1. In FIREFOX
        1. On the right side of the file’s toolbar, click on the print icon.
        2. If a print dialog appears, then cancel it.
        3. Click on the download icon.
      2. In SAFARI
        1. On the right side of the file’s toolbar, click on the print icon.
        2. From the Safari File menu, select Export as PDF.
        3. Give the file an appropriate name.
        4. Save to the Desktop or elsewhere.
  4. Selecting the Downloaded .pdf to Print
    1. When the .pdf file has finished downloading, go to: https://www.google.com/cloudprint.
    2. On the left side of the page, click on the Print button.
    3. From the drop-down menu that opens, select Upload file to print.

    4. In the Cloud Print window that opens, click on: Select a file….
    5. From your device, select the .pdf file you downloaded in Step 3.
  5. Creating and Submitting a Print Job
    1. Select the appropriate print queue (should be shown as “Owned by WolfPrint Printers”):
      1. WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite (Letter size)
      2. WolfPrint-Color (Letter size)
      3. WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite-11×17
      4. WolfPrint-Color-11×17
    2. If you want to print on both sides of the paper:
      1. In Firefox or Safari, select Duplex.
    3. Confirm your Paper size (must match the print queue you selected above):
      1. If you selected:
        WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite
        or
        WolfPrint-Color,
        then you must select US Letter (8.5 X 11), which should be selected by default.
      2. If you selected:
        WolfPrint-BlackAndWhite-11×17
        or
        WolfPrint-Color-11×17
        then you must select Ledger — Tabloid (11 X 17), which should be selected by default.
    4. Select the Pages you want to print.
    5. To submit your job to the print queue, click on the Print button.
  6. Follow the instructions for Confirming and Printing Your Job below.

Confirming and Printing Your Job

  1. Confirming Your Job
    Within 10 minutes
    you must confirm your print job by following the steps below; otherwise, it will automatically be removed from the system.

    1. Go to the PaperCut login page.
    2. Enter your username (Unity ID) and password.
    3. Press the Log In button
    4. After a few seconds, in the PaperCut window, you should get a Print Job Notification.
      If not, then check your email for a message from WolfPrint. First-time Cloud Print users may need to confirm their NC State Gmail address and link it to their PaperCut account.
    5. Select an account to be charged:
      1. Your personal account
        or
      2. Shared account (if you have access to one)
    6. To confirm the job, click on the Print button.
    7. After a few seconds, a pop-up Message should appear, indicating that your file is ready to print on a FollowMe printer.
    8. Click OK. The file should now appear as a Pending Release in the PaperCut window.
  2. Printing Out Your Job
    To finish, see Releasing and Printing a WolfPrint Job.
    DEADLINE: Be sure to print your job within 12 hours after you submitted it; otherwise, it will automatically be removed from the system.
