On Oct. 6, NC State, in partnership with Google, hosted two events in Talley Student Union to showcase Gemini for Education. Attendees got a hands-on look at Google’s AI tools.

Approximately 500 students attended a pop-up event that featured product demos of Gemini chat and NotebookLM. They also learned about using Canvas to create infographics or request coding support and Guided Learning to create customized, step-by-step tutorials.

At a lunch and learn, 100 faculty and staff explored how to craft prompts to generate clear, accurate context using the PARTS model — persona, aim, recipients, theme, structure. Attendees also dived deeper into additional Gemini tools like Deep Research and Gems. 

These events were co-sponsored by the Office of Information Technology (OIT), Data Science and AI Academy, and the Division of Academic and Student Affairs.

“We are excited to collaborate with campus partners in the future and plan additional events and resources for Gemini and AI,” says Chris Shearer, OIT Google service owner.

Remember — when using Gemini for coursework or business purposes, log in with your NC State account to ensure the data is protected. Personal accounts are not allowed to be used with university data. Gemini has been approved for use with green (not sensitive) and yellow (moderately sensitive) data. See the data management framework for more information about data classification levels.
