In May, NC State reached a significant milestone by successfully completing phase one of the campuswide Google storage optimization project. We have implemented quotas across all user and shared drives, achieving our target storage reduction goals from 5 petabytes (PB) to under 2 PB.

This achievement marks a crucial step in ensuring sustainable data management. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and adherence to the new guidelines.

Now, we’re transitioning into phase two — the implementation of a paid storage model. This model will allow us to continue providing reliable and scalable storage solutions while ensuring responsible resource allocation.

Our move to a paid storage model will begin in July when official bills will be sent to departments that require additional Google storage.

To prepare for this transition, sample bills have been distributed to all OUCs and departments. These samples provide a clear overview of the new billing structure and associated costs.

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration. Together, we’re making a positive impact on the university’s data management practices.
