Google Workspace Storage Changes
Following Google’s removal of unlimited storage for Google Workspace, the Google Service Team has implemented storage quotas on our domain. The possibility of purchasing additional storage is being explored to address potential future needs.
Windows 10 End of Support
To ensure a secure and supported Windows environment, systems running Windows 10 must be upgraded to Windows 11 by Friday, July 25, 2025. This change is required in order to comply with the university’s Endpoint Protection Standard. Due to Windows 11 hardware requirements, some devices will need to be replaced. The Windows 10 operating system will reach the end of support on Oct. 14, 2025. End of support means Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support.
System Access Request (SAR) Migration to Mendix
This project involves migrating SAR from the current Java environment to a homegrown solution on the Mendix platform.
Research Storage Implementation of Recommendations
OIT and the NC State University Libraries are working to implement recommendations to address findings from a Research Storage usability study. These recommendations include consolidating the service information into one succinct web presence that sufficiently communicates policies and intended use as well as making the Research Storage portal’s interface more user-friendly with clear navigation and documentation.
Guest and Affiliate System Development Program
Students, paid faculty and paid staff are eligible for NC State Unity accounts with access to specific IT-based services by nature of their official affiliation with the campus. However, many people who are associated with the university outside of those roles (referred to as guests and affiliates) also require access to IT-based services. This program is being launched to design, develop and implement a Guest and Affiliate System that will streamline identifying and registering university guests and affiliates as well as requesting, approving, provisioning and deprovisioning access to required IT-based services. This system will improve cybersecurity by providing better control on access to systems. It will also oversee the creation and management of the many interrelated projects that will be required to achieve the program’s goals in a consistent and coordinated manner.
New Research Administration System
OIT is partnering with the Office of Research and Innovation and the campus research community to implement the InfoEd research administration system (branded as the Research Enterprise Data (RED) system). The primary goal of the system will be to support and grow NC State’s research enterprise by fostering collaboration, creating efficiencies, providing transparency and increasing the efficacy of compliance. Modules to be implemented include:
- Animal Care and Use
- Conflict of Interest
- Notice of Intent
- Proposal Tracking
- Post-Award Management
- Financial Tracking
- Proposal Development
- Human Subjects
