New research storage option available
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) now offers 2 terabytes (TB) of storage space to every NC State faculty member. This new Individual Share option addresses the need for a more flexible research storage option for data not associated with a specific sponsored research project.
The Individual Share option complements the existing Project Share option, which supports the life cycle of a specific sponsored project entered in the university’s Research Administration Data And Reporting (RADAR) database.
The Individual Share option provides a solution for research storage needs that span a researcher’s entire time at the university. This means that data stored in an Individual Share will remain available no matter what sponsored projects a researcher is working on. It also means the researcher does not have to be listed as an investigator for an active project in RADAR to use the service. The Individual Share option is available immediately to new faculty who are beginning their research activities at NC State.
Both the Individual Share option and the Project Share option:
- Provide 2 TB of storage space.
- Are managed via the OIT Research Services self-service web portal.
- Offer the ability to grant access permissions to other NC State users.
- Can be accessed from:
- On-campus machines configured for access via the OIT Research Services web portal.
- Off-campus machines connected to NC State’s Virtual Private Networking (VPN) Service.
- NC State’s Henry2 HPC cluster.
- Globus research data management service.
