To maintain a secure and up-to-date computing environment, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will implement a mandatory upgrade to Windows 11 on all OIT-supported devices that are Windows 11 capable. The upgrade will be rolled out March 7-14.

Why the Upgrade?

This upgrade is essential for enhancing system security, improving performance and ensuring compatibility with the latest software and applications. The OIT Managed Desktop group is working to meet the university deadline and can address lingering issues before they affect end users. This patch will only affect those who have OIT-supported capable devices but have not yet run the self-service upgrade.

Upgrade Timeline and Duration

The mandatory upgrade will be rolled out during the Spring Break period to minimize disruption to academic and administrative activities.

Please be aware that the upgrade process can take anywhere from 25 minutes to 2.5 hours, depending on your device’s specifications and network conditions.

What to Expect

  • If you did not upgrade before March 7, your device will automatically begin the upgrade process when it is connected to the network.
  • You may experience temporary downtime during the upgrade.
  • After the upgrade, you may need to adjust some settings and familiarize yourself with the new interface.

Support and Resources

If you have any questions or need assistance with the upgrade, please contact the NC State Help Desk at 919-515-4357 or [email protected].
