NC State students have gone Google!

Starting today (Thursday, July 8), NC State students will now have more than 7GB of storage space for their NC State email accounts.  The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will migrate the e-mail accounts of students who haven’t already moved from Unity/Webmail to Google Apps @ NC State, the new official student email and collaborative suite.

Since the Google Apps beta service launched in early April, more than 8,000 students have already signed up for an account and had their email migrated. Approximately 26,000 students will be receiving new Google Apps accounts in this migration. Estimates indicate it may take up to 10 business days to complete this phase of the student migration. This phase includes only those expected to be students in the fall and does not include permanent employees who may also be students or those with WolfWise accounts.

After the migration, students can begin taking advantage of enhanced e-mail services and new online tools, all from their university @ncsu.edu email address. In addition to Gmail, students will receive Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Sites, Google Talk and Google Wave. Many of these tools are also accessible via various mobile devices.
