1) Announcements – 5 min

1. OIT will support only version 10.5.8 or newer of Mac OS X after Dec 31, 2011 

2. Apple Education Support Line 800-800-2775 use this number only. Always verify Apple Care Coverage with purchase info.

3. OIT  does not have a  support policy for Boot Camp. & OIT  does not support Classic mode at all.

5. Trend Micro Office Scan for Macintosh – www.ncsu.edu/it/antivirus. New managed antivirus for campus.

6. OIT Macintosh Support Web Site go.ncsu.edu/mac for updates.

7. Unity Macintosh Kit uses /Users/$uid$ in the Active Directory configuration to create a local home on each machine at login

8. Modified Unity Macintosh Kits are supported by the unit which has made the modifications.

9. Only Apple, Intel (i386) hardware is supported by OIT for all software and hardware. Only unmodified iOS is supported

2) Apple Software, AELP, MacOSX Server bulk, ARD bulk Update – 5 min.

AELP – Mac Software Collection: Media are here.  Disk images are available on the Media share. Folks should have been contacted.  NOTE that we have encountered some issues with optical media.  Please email help@ncsu.edu if you have issues so we can track.

AELP – Mac Software  Collection: about 280 licenses are still available at $28.50.  Contact Bill_Coker@ncsu.edu

AELP – Bulk purchases: OS X server and ARD are renewed.  License numbers should have been distributed to everyone.

3) UNC Combined Pricing Initiative (CPI) program for IT purchases Update – 5 min.

The CPI documentation is at http://oit.ncsu.edu/it-purchases.  At this time continue to purchase Apple hardware via Market Place as usual.  Negotiations are on going at GA with Apple and seem to be making some progress.  Discussion.

4) Move to Trend Micro Office Scan for Macintosh – 5 min.

OIT will be making Trend Micro Office Scan for Macintosh managed antivirus available as the supported antivirus software over the Winter Break 2010.  This antivirus software is compatible with Snow Leopard. Discussion.

5) Spring 2011 Unity Lab Kit – 5 min.

OIT will be making the Spring 2011 Unity Lab Kit image available from the Casper Imaging server and the Casper Suite server by Friday Dec. 17, 2010.  Issues around Adobe deployment and license servers for various products have delayed delivery.  This is the last monolithic image based on hand installation OIT will publish.  In the future a unified image based on Casper Suite packages will be available for those not using the Casper Suit Server upon request. oit.ncsu.edu/macintosh/macintosh-lab-kits Discussion.

6) Casper Suite License 2nd order – 5 min.

OIT is making a 2nd order of Casper Suite licenses for units that did not get in on the initial buy.  The cost is $26.40 per seat.  Four units from CHASS, MEAS, 4H, and ITECS are already participating with additional 201 licenses.  If any other unit would like licenses this will be the last order for this license year.  OIT will not hold any additional licenses.  The deadline is COB Friday December 17, 2010.  Discussion

7) Tech Short: Introduction to Casper Suite Discussion – 60 min.

We now have the first order of Casper Suite in place with 1800 licenses.  Everette Allen will provide an introduction to how to use the Casper Suite.  Rules for policy use and naming will be covered. This system is now considered in beta production. OIT intends to move to enterprise production in summer 2011.
