Lunch & Learn: “Learning to Think Like an Accessible Web Designer: Accessible Modal Windows” on Nov. 29

Lunch & Learn: “Learning to Think Like an Accessible Web Designer: Accessible Modal Windows” on Nov. 29

The OIT Lunch and Learn series will present “Learning to Think Like an Accessible Web Designer: Accessible Modal Windows” on Thursday, Nov. 29 from noon to 1 p.m. in D.H. Hill ITTC Lab 2.

Greg Kraus, University IT Accessibility Coordinator, will help you make rich Internet applications accessible, even if you find the Accessible Rich Interent Application (AREI) Suite from W3C overhellming. He will introduce ARIA concepts and techniques with a concrete example of how to make Web applications accessible by examining the implementation of a modal window within a page and learning:

  • What inherent problems there are for users with disabilities
  • What techniques ARIA has for dealing with those problems
  • How to implement those techniques in a Web application

You will gain an understanding of the problems that people with disabilities have in interacting with rich Internet applications and observe practical ARIA techniques that can be incorporated into your own Web applications.
