2) CPI Apple Bulk Buy is NOW – 5 min.

The 1st quarter CPI Apple bulk buy for 2014 is happening now and will close around March 14.  All Apple order’s > 45k are being held in NCSU MarketPlace until the bulk is ready.  For orders < $5k request these be held and added to the bulk buy using the Notes field in MarketPlace or by contacting Eric_Shiflett@ncsu.edu.  Typical savings have been 8-10%.

3) Update on Antivirus (again)   – 10 min.

OIT has selected Kerspersky Endpoint protection as the replacement for our current antivirus package.  There will be 2 target groups a) university owned machines will get a managed version and b) all others (BYOD) will get standard retail package

Antivirus Service team has following target dates: 1) March 17, 2014 have BYOD version available for download and use from www.ncsu.edu/antivirus and 2) April 7, 2014 to have managed servers and experimental install packages available.  Trend Micro license drops dead June 30, 2014.  Work is being done now on BYOD web interface for client download. It is very important that folks with campus owned devices NOT install the BYOD version. Discussion.

4) Update on CrashPlan (again)  – 10 min.

OIT OCC has worked with Code42 to take advantage of their Internet 2 license  contract.  There is a 500 user to enter the license which we need to try to meet. Each user is allowed 4 devices with unlimited backup space fully encrypted in the cloud.  OIT will contribute 10K to one-time setup costs for the I2 license ($24,170 -$10,000 = $14,170), then campus would pay the remaining at the following costs:

Year 1 ($14,170/500) + 82.56 = $110.90 per user

Year 2+ = ($2,400/500) + $82.56 = $87.36 per user

Contact Bill_Coker@ncsu.edu if you are interested in purchasing. Discussion

5) Casper 9 transition Update- 10 min

Several items for Casper Suite: a) About 23 machines have checked into the old Casper 8 server in the last 7 days and their information has been sent to the owner’s of the sites they should belong to. Please continue to verify that all devices are using nc.jamfcloud.com.  b) Please continue to re-register iOS devices with nc.jamfcloud.com THIS MUST BE DONE MANUALLY.  There were 721 iOS device moved from 8>9 servers but only 21 show as having checked in with 9.x server since Jan1, 2014.

c) We have encountered a number of issues that have caused slowness in Casper Suite 9.x. and have worked through many of them.  We are currently finding, deleting and re-enrolling about 12 OS X devices that have duplicate unique identifiers (UDIDs) in the JSS database.  This likely happened some time during our 8.x usage when there was a bug (now fixed) in Casper 8 Recon.app and the Quick Add packages it creates that caused the issue. d) we are preparing to bring ASU into the JSS to begin the UNC System implementation. Please check and rename all Categories, Packages, Scripts, Directory Bindings, Disk Encryption Configurations, Dock Items, Configurations to include NCSU- at the beginning of the name of each.   Discussion
