2) Casper 8 issues with unwanted policies – 15 min
There has been some discussion of the post about unwanted policies running on campus lists. The issue was that 2 groups on campus did not update their QuickAdd packages to use the Casper 9 JSS at nc.jamfcloud.com. Instead they continued to use old packages during fat imaging for Fall 2014 that attached their machine back to the old casper 8 server. All policies in Casper 8 were global and 3 of these no longer had restrictions for Organization the 3 policies were installed on the machines before the global move policy was able to switch the machines back to the Casper 9 server. It is not possible to create a policy in Casper 9 Sites that would ever cause this issue. The issue these 2 units experienced was a result of them not updating their Quick Add. PLEASE update all of your caspertools and QuickAdd packages to Casper 9.51 or newer!
To avoid further issues the 3 packages and their policies have been removed from the old Casper 8 server.

3) OS X security: ShellShock and friends – 10 min
Recently there have be new malware that effect OS X. These exploits have been seen in the wild but require a web server or unprotected unix shell access to effect. See support.apple.com/kb/ht1222 Apple has release a patch for the ShellShock bash exploit which updates /bin/bash and /bin/sh to version 3.2.53(1)-release that is free from the issue. The patch is not part of software update and must be installed from support.apple.com/kb/DL1769 There is a package in the casper server for install at nc.jamfcloud.com/packages.html?id=1868 Discussion
