OIT offers back-to-school training!

Wednesday (Aug. 16) is the first day of class at NC State, and OIT is offering a slate of technology workshops to get you off to a great start.

All workshops are offered via REPORTER, the university’s non-credit course management system. Don’t forget to click “Add to Watchlist” if you are unable to attend a scheduled workshop. You’ll receive an email notice when new workshop offerings are available.

The following free workshops are available through September:

  • Two-Factor Authentication at NC State will be offered on Tuesday, Aug. 22 and Thursday, Sept. 7 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. NC State uses two multi-factor solutions to protect many systems, accounts and services. Google 2-Step protects G Suite accounts and Duo protects Shibboleth-connected services, like the MyPack Portal and WolfWare. During this workshop, you’ll learn the risks to you and to campus from phishing and other nefarious online activities and how two-factor authentication can protect you and the university against cyber threats.   • Gmail: Advanced Productivity will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. Building on Gmail: More Than Your Inbox, this advanced hands-on workshop takes Gmail to the next level. You will learn more about labels, filters, canned responses, scheduling Google Calendar Events, Hangouts, and using Google Drive through Gmail, along with any planned or newly released features.   • Report2Web training for application users and approvers will be offered on Thursday, Aug. 24 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. Report2Web.is a Web-based enterprise report distribution, archival and retrieval solution that allows users to access critical business documents using a standard Web browser. This course will show users how to navigate and use the application. To register, visit REPORTER.
  • Create, Collaborate & Get Organized with Google Drive will be offered on Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. During this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to use Drive to manage your resources in a collaborative environment. Primary topics will include organizing files and folders, securing documents through file sharing permissions, group editing and collaboration, and common tools throughout Google’s suite of apps.To register, visit REPORTER.
  • Introduction to Google Services will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Room 108 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. Topics will include a review of currently available Google apps on campus, accessibility, recommended settings, security tips, support, web registry tools (e.g., generic accounts, calendar resources), searching, and much more! If you are new to Google, or interested in learning more about how NC State implements G Suite on campus, we hope you’ll join us for this enlightening workshop! To register, visit REPORTER.
  • Cisco Jabber: Your all in one Collaboration Tool! will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 6 from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. This Lunch and Learn event will provide an overview of how Cisco Jabber streamlines communications and enhances productivity by unifying presence, instant messaging, voice, video, voice messaging, screen sharing, and conferencing capabilities securely into one client on your desktop and mobile device.   • Gmail: More Than Your Inbox will be offered on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. There is more to Gmail than just composing, replying and forwarding messages. This workshop will provide an in-depth overview of Gmail features, including an emphasis on labels and search tools, contacts management, chat, tasks, settings, labs, and new features.   • Google Forms will be offered on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. This workshop will cover the basics of creating forms, collaborative editing, and viewing data in spreadsheets. It will also introduce several advanced features, such as custom themes, page breaks, question validation, and embedding forms in websites. To register, visit REPORTER.
