Cyber Security Awareness Month: Mobile Security for iPhone & Android on Oct. 9

Tim Gurganus and Everette Allen of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) will present “Mobile Security for iPhone & Android” on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. in 216 Scott Hall. Nowadays, you can access almost everything from your smartphone: email, bank accounts, Google docs, shopping websites, Paypal, pictures, videos and Facebook and Twitter accounts. What would happen if your phone was lost, stolen or infected with a virus? Your data, including text messages, passwords and contacts, would be difficult to replace. Is it worth protecting? This presentation will cover the security features of Apple iOS and Google Android –  the two most popular smartphone operating systems.  You will learn how to use a screen lock passcode, encrypt the data on your device, back up the data on your device, locate your device if its lost, scan your device for malware, and much more.

To register for this presentation, visit Classmate. Lunch will be provided, and you will have an opportunity to win door prizes.

There will be various Cyber Security activities offered throughout the month of October. For more information, visit the Cyber Security Awareness Month website.
