OIT offers free IT training on 2FA, Google Apps, REPORTER, and WordPress

Have you enrolled in Google 2-Step Verification or Duo Security yet? OIT will offer Two-Factor Authentication at NC State on Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center.

NC State uses Google 2-Step to protect G Suite accounts and Duo to protect Shibboleth-connected services, like the MyPack Portal and WolfWare. During this workshop, you’ll learn the risks of phishing and other nefarious online activities and how two-factor authentication can protect you and the university against these cyber threats.   • Google Calendar will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. If you’re comfortable with the basics of Google Calendar and are ready to use some more of its features, this hands-on workshop is for you. This workshop will focus on three main sections: calendar (my calendar, other calendars, mini calendar), event details, and calendar management. To register, visit REPORTER.
  • Report2Web will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m to 11 a.m and 11 a.m to noon in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. Report2Web is a web-based enterprise report distribution, archival and retrieval solution that allows users to access critical business documents using a standard Web browser.   • Google Docs will be offered on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. This powerful word processor provides tools to create and format documents while collaborating with others in the cloud. Topics covered in this session include revision history, the explore tool, inserting and editing images, collaboration tools, downloading, importing and publishing to the web, add-ons and extensions, offline access, and more!   • Cisco WebEx will be offered on Thursday, Sept. 21 from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. This Lunch & Learn event will provide an overview of how Cisco WebEx Online Meetings enables you to virtually meet, share content, and video conference with anyone in the world with an internet connection, including mobile users!   • Create, Collaborate & Get Organized with Google Drive will be offered on Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. During this introductory hands-on workshop, you will learn how to use Drive to manage your resources in a collaborative environment. Primary topics will include organizing files and folders, securing documents through file sharing permissions, group editing and collaboration, and common tools throughout Google’s suite of apps.To register, visit REPORTER.
  • Managing Courses in REPORTER will be offered on Tuesday, Sept. 26 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. If you are a course admin whose is familiar with the REPORTER system, get to know it in more detail. This course will explore functions of the Manage Courses tab, additional course and instance edit functionality, post-course actions, along with tips and tricks for users.   • Gmail: Advanced Productivity will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. Building on Gmail: More Than Your Inbox, this advanced hands-on workshop takes Gmail to the next level. You will learn more about labels, filters, canned responses, scheduling Google Calendar Events, Hangouts, and using Google Drive through Gmail, along with any planned or newly released features.   • Using Moodle with REPORTER will be offered on Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 108 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. This course will detail how to configure settings in your REPORTER course to integrate with your Moodle content. You will also learn how to manage enrollments and completions.   • Gmail: More Than Your Inbox will be offered on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. There is more to Gmail than just composing, replying to and forwarding messages. This workshop will provide an in-depth overview of Gmail features including an emphasis on labels and search tools, contacts management, chat, tasks, settings, labs, and new features.   • Intermediate WordPress will be offered on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. In this workshop,  you will learn about effective information architecture, the difference between good content and bad content and how to ensure your website is accessible to users with disabilities.   • Introduction to the New Google Sites will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. The session will cover a range of topics including: creating and organizing new pages, choosing themes, embedding Google Drive folders and files, adding media, customized and basic Web design principles, publishing, setting permissions, and more.   • Cisco Jabber: Your all in one Collaboration Tool! will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 12 from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 110 of the Avent Ferry Technology Center. This Lunch and Learn will provide an overview of how Cisco Jabber streamlines communications and enhances productivity by unifying presence, instant messaging, voice, video, voice messaging, screen sharing, and conferencing capabilities securely into one client on your desktop and mobile device.
