OIT reminds all service contacts of Google Generic accounts listed in Web Registry to enroll their accounts in Google 2-Step Verification no later than Wednesday, Dec. 13.
If you do not enroll by Dec. 13, your account will be locked and you will have to contact the NC State Help Desk to regain access.
You should coordinate your enrollment efforts with other account contacts, so no one is locked out of the generic account once it is enrolled. All contacts of the generic accounts should know how to:
- log in to the generic account with Google 2-Step enabled.
- use a second factor.
- get assistance if they get locked out of the generic account.
Enroll now so you will avoid:
- being locked out of the account on Dec 14.
- a lengthy wait to regain access to your account and campus services.
Contact your local IT support if you have any questions or need help to set up Google 2-Step.
If you are unsure of the best way to manage Google 2-Step with multiple users, visit 2-Step Verification Setup for a Generic Account for several options. In addition, see OIT’s Best Practices: 2-Step Verification and Generic Accounts at NC State recording. You must be logged in to an individual NC State G Suite account to access the video.
As with your unityid@ncsu.edu account, enabling Google 2-Step for your generic accounts will allow you to log in securely and protect both your personal and university data assets against up to 98 percent of all phishing compromises. For more information, visit the Two-Factor Authentication at NC State website.
