Remember to power down to save energy during Winter Break!

‘Tis the season to give, so consider giving back to NC State and the environment by participating in the annual Holiday Energy Savings Initiative (HESI).

To lower energy costs, NC State will lower building temperatures in unoccupied campus facilities from Thursday, Dec. 14 to Sunday, Jan. 7. You can help too. Before you leave for the Winter Break, remember to:

  • Turn off any non-essential electronics, including scanners, printers and other computer peripherals that won’t be used while you’re away.
  • Shutdown your computer as opposed to a sleep state, if compatible with your business processes. If you need to keep your computer on, simply turn off your monitor.
  • Turn off lights and shut all exterior doors and windows.
  • Clean out and unplug office refrigerators.

The HESI has saved NC State $294,537 in energy costs in the last year alone and $3.48 million since the program’s inception in 2005. For more information on how to reduce energy consumption, visit the Holiday Energy Savings website
