Google to discontinue goo.gl link shortener

Google recently announced that it will replace its Google URL shortener service, goo.gl, with Firebase Dynamic Links (FDL). As a result:

  • Currently, only existing users can create short links on the goo.gl console.
  • Existing short links will continue to work and may be managed through the goo.gl console until March 30, 2019.
  • On March 30, 2019, Google will discontinue the goo.gl console but will continue to redirect existing short links to their intended destinations.

As an alternative, NC State users are encouraged to use OIT’s link shortener service, Go Links, for university-related information.
