OIT announces SIIR scanning schedule for 2020

Protecting your data on campus is a very sensitive issue. So every quarter, OIT Security and Compliance performs scans to locate sensitive data that is stored inappropriately on university-owned machines and cloud-based systems.

These scans are a part of the Sensitive Information Identification Remediation (SIIR) program, which is a campus security initiative to identify and remediate sensitive information, including social security numbers, health information, sensitive research data, and credit and bank account information.

OIT Security and Compliance will use the Spirion software tool to run SIIR-host scans on the following dates:

  • Feb. 11
  • May 12
  • Aug. 11
  • Nov. 10

Per university requirements, Spirion must be installed on all university-owned machines. OIT Security and Compliance manages the scan results centrally and will contact the user or local IT support staff if sensitive data is identified.
